Select Your Style
Everyone’s space is unique and different. Matthew will certainly work together with you to create a portrait drawing that suites your style.
White bristol paper is a classic choice for a pencil portrait. It’s highly durable surface is recommended for detailed pencil drawings. Matthew has used Bristol paper for hundreds of diverse drawings. All one person portraits are created 8″ x 8″ and placed in a 14″ x 14 ” frame with a double mat. The turnaround time for this type of portrait drawing is one to two weeks.
Choose from grey or tan toned paper. This paper works quite nicely with white charcoal. When combined with pencil white charcoal can create a very special look and feel to the portrait drawing. All one person portraits are created 8″ x 8″ and placed in a 14″ x 14 ” frame with a double mat. The turnaround time for this type of portrait drawing is one to two weeks.
Choose a color for your portrait’s background. This option is highly customizable. Backgrounds are painted with Acrylic paint. The portrait is then drawn with a black colored pencil along with white charcoal. All one person portraits are created 8″ x 8″ and placed in a 14″ x 14 ” frame with a double mat. The turnaround time for this type of portrait drawing is one to two weeks.
During Matthew’s eighteen year illustration career he always worked hard to nurture the client artists relationship. If you have never commissioned a portrait Matthew will walk you through the process step by step. Communication is key during the portrait drawing process so everyone’s goals will be met.
The Photo Reference
The main component of Matthew’s portrait drawing starts with a high quality photo. If you happen to live on Long Island in New York Matthew would be happy to photograph you at your location or in his studio. If not the next best option is to send Matthew at least two to three photos. Matthew and you will work together to choose the best photo for the project.
Keeping It Simple
Once a photo has been agreed upon it’s time for Matthew to get busy. Each portrait can take two to four days to complete. Matthew will email you a photo of the finished drawing for approval. Once approved Matthew will ship you a framed portrait. Depending on Matthew’s schedule you can have your portrait drawing mailed to you framed within ten days.
Ultimately there are host of options available when it comes to commissioning a portrait drawing. Portraits can be completed framed or unframed. Matthew can complete a portrait from life as well as long as you are willing to sit for the experience. You can choose to have multiple people in a portrait drawing.
